I watched tonight an MSNBC “documentary” called Marijuana, Inc. A modern day Reefer Madness. The nadir was when some Bush era drug czar called pot a poison. Made we want to fire up a doob just to spite them.

Um… it is legal. At least, it is in civilised countries. 😉

Yep. I could write a novel – or maybe a horror story – about this area of the country, where we happen to own a house. Everybody grows… except us; alas, we’re square pegs in an Emerald Triangle.

Obviously we’ve learned nothing from history. We banned Alcohol not too long ago in our country’s history for almost identical reasons. It was “Poison”, “ruining society”, etc. What happened then? Anyone could get liquor including kids because the mob made it accessible. Now we see the same thing with Marijuana, anyone can buy it and you can’t swing a cat without finding someone who knows someone who sells it anywhere in the US. It’s just as easy for kids to get their hands on as alcohol once was in prohibition days. Personally I’m not into marijuana, but the history of insanity which has taken place since day one of it’s illegality is just ridiculous.

The #1 problem is that there are people getting paid good money from incarcerating these as drug felonies, and for rehab centers, and such, fighting it is what’s paying to keep it illegal. There is no Weed Lobby “Yet” to pay the governors to defend it. Once there is, it will be as if DC never had a problem with weed in the first place, heck without it our constitution would be written on something boring like cotton or wood.

Just as the Mob had to move onto something else and kill less cops and innocent by standards to keep up their revenues after prohibition. So will these drug cartels have to find a new niche. I realize this can easily be followed by a reductio ad absurdum of “well if the legalize weed, what’s to stop them from legalizing cocaine, heroin,or meth?” the answer “proper studies” health risks are just that, we accept some risks in life and that’s why things like cigarettes and alcohol are legal, but only to a certain extent. We have guidelines and regulations set up in order to better manage those risks to the public, alcohol proofs for example. When a drug is unmanageable and proves too great a health risk to the public it is banned, as well it should be.

IAATM. If it were legal to self medicate at night with a little ganja, a lot of other far more expensive drugs would probably become a lot less popular. I imagine legal pot would take a bite out of alcohol sales too.

Exactly the problem, apparently. Like those cars that run on stuff other than gas. Can’t have that!

Not exactly, Nance. Pot is real. Cars that run on water are a figment of a bad engineer’s fevered imagination.

You don’t think there are cars that could be practical that don’t require gas? Or as much gas? Really? Hybrids and all that?

Sure. CNG. Bio-diesel. Even bio-butanol. But those are all ICE. The conspiracists like to go on about how Detroit is suppressing vehicles that will run on air or water or fairy dust. Those are fantasies that violate the 1st Law of Thermodynamics, which you may have seen written as TANSTAAFL.
