The Lioness needs some support. Seriously whacked out stuff happening down in Mississippi.

Thanks for helping Lioness get the word out. I had no idea this was going on. Have posted a link on my blog and put it on FB. Trying to think of more ways to help.

Holy crap. My knowledge is all academic at this point, but from what I’ve heard, things are usually so much easier when you don’t let the authoree-tay’s in.

    * Cops can’t enter without probable cause or a warrant.

    * DHS has no rights to interview children alone.

    * DHS are required by law to discuss the allegations with the parents.

    * If a neighbor worries the kids are beaten or dead, letting the cops/dhs see them through an open window corrects the worry.

    * A good response is “We’ll take our kids to their family doctor for a complete examination right away. We’ll ask the doc to mail you a copy of his report. Now either place me under arrest, or get the hell off my property.”

    * Missouri is a castle doctrine/stand your ground state – where you have the right to protect your dwelling and the people in it with physical force, if you reasonably believe an intruder intends to inflict harm or commit certain felonies. Missouri also includes absolute defense against civil suit that would come after blowing away some intruder.

    * At the end of the day, I’d move. Who wants to live in an area where people running a crack house have sympathetic relatives in both DHS and law enforcement? That’s not a place you keep your kids in.

I got an email from The Lioness that they moved out a couple of days ago. My chemical intuition says they’re cooking crystal meth in there. Ammonia and organic solvents are pretty good “tells.” So there MIGHT be a legitimate LE investigation into the neighbors’ activities. But the family members would certainly seem to complicate things. Add in that her husband is a Ph.D. chemist and the whole thing just feels too strange.
