Well, my comment is kind of self-evident. You actually can teach your child things they don’t cover in school, even if the child goes to school, provided he or she is not too burdened with homework. We built a polarimeter when our child was in 5th grade. She used it in her science fair project, but we originally did it because we thought it was cool. We took the guts out of a cardboard kaleidoscope to start with, and went from there. For her project, the kid used it to measure the optical rotation of solutions of various kinds of sugar and compared them to fruit juices and fruit drinks. |
