ONE MORE REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

Filed at 1:05 pm under by dcobranchi

A PA legislator wants to test all g-school kids for drugs.

The $23 million testing plan, targeted at grades 8-12, would not be mandatory, but parents who do not want their children to participate would have to opt out. It is sure to draw critics who argue the pilot program will invade student privacy.

“In my view, I’d like to see everybody tested,” Peterson said.

Do PA lawmakers have to pee in a cup? I’d bet not becasue this guy would surely fail. Mandatory testing for everybody would surely be held unconstitutional.

They better not be serving poppy bagels in the cafeteria – otherwise everyone will test positive for opium use!

This is beyond ridiculous.. never mind pee in a cup – someone ought to tell that legislator to go poop in his hat!

Oh no Daryl… it wouldn’t be unconstitutional. You see… Justice Thomas, great defender of liberty that he is, ripped out the guts of student privacy last year.

I thought the Court made a distinction that it was the extracurricular aspect of “clubs” (choir, sports, etc.) that made the testing constitutional.

“We find that testing students who participate in extracurricular activities is a reasonably effective means of addressing the school district’s legitimate concerns in preventing, deterring and detecting drug use,” Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for himself, Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist and Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy and Stephen Breyer.
