SORRY, CALIFORNIANS…
This is NOT homeschooling. (I’ve been tweaked on at least one list-serv for questioning whether these types of charter school students are homeschoolers.)

No, it’s definitely not homeschooling that they describe… However, it’s still infuriating… |

How is that a homeschool? Also, if they don’t want to deal with the state regulations, why don’t they just stop accepting the state money? |

California has some very strange regulations. A lot of people there call themselves homeschoolers who, in my mind, are just way too involved with the g-schools. Here’s a simple test that should work almost all of the time- If you are subject to the state accountability (NCLB) tests, you are not homeschooling. This test sort of fails in TN where the Ed Dept doesn’t quite understand federal law. But, I understand that the homeschoolers there don’t take the tests, so it’s still a pretty good quick-and-dirty method. Dollars to donuts that the “homeschoolers” in CA have to take them. |

Funny. I pulled my kids out of a charter school here in Texas to homeschool. I never once thought the two were the same thing. heh. Charter school was just alternative public school. |
