OT: NO WONDER…

Filed at 5:52 pm under by dcobranchi

so many Americans are overweight. The BMI calculation tends towards the anorexic. I’m 5′ 10″. Based on the BMI, the normal weight for that height is 152 lbs. At that weight, you’d be able to count my vertebrae. From the front.

Maybe it’s not geared towards men?

Try this one – it takes into account age and gender, and shows you where you compare to Americans of similar ages and genders.

The BMI is gender neutral.

Says I’m underweight. But I knew that already.

My husband is 6’3″ and 165 or so… and he seems normal weight to me. I think we’ve all become a little too used to bigger sizes that a normal weight seems too skinny.

And checking the BMI, for 5’10”, normal weight ranges from 129 to 173… quite a huge range, and 173 is definitely doable. I agree that 129 is rather skinny, but I have several vegetarian friends who are that skinny, and healthy.
