Laura Derrick sent me this article on a terrorism drill. While I always appreciate tips, I really didn’t understand why Laura thought it important. That is, until two-thirds the way down:

The exercise will simulate an attack by a fictitious radical group called Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled. Under the scenario, a bomb is placed on the bus and is detonated while the bus is traveling on Durham, causing the bus to land on its side and fill with smoke.

We’re the terrorists?! What moron came up with that. I hope the homeschooling community in Muskegon, MI gently lets the “leaders” know they’ll need to find another ficticious group for next time.

Of course they wouldn’t use an Arab group… that would be politically “insensitive.” But homeschoolers are fair game because they’re just a bunch of insane white Christians, right?

The WASE comment doesn’t bug me. I don’t give a damn what they think. I’m more bothered that that federal tax dollars are being wasted on this. On a scale of 1-1000, wher exactly does Muskegon MI rank on the threat list? If the terrorists hit the schools around my house, they would get the kids of secret service agents, DHS people, CIA, FBI, etc. I haven’t seen any mock terrorism drills around here.

As if it’s the homeschoolers who are out to harm children.

Well, there was the Michigan Militia. They were (are?) pretty wacko and very anti-government.

Have you seen the retraction and apology?

I agree with the comment that Dan Stout doesn’t sound very sorry!

My daughter spent 3 years in public High school. Those people were glad to see her graduate (and see the last of me – ha!)
Point being, that in every one of the numerous battles I had with the dimwit administrators [that I usually won] the apologies were always left handed. Reading between the lines they basically said: “We’re sorry you’re unable to understand how we know best because we’re smarter than you.”
These people truly believe that the problems arise from the fact that we mere mortals don’t understand our intellectual betters. Hence, apologies are never sincere, just expedient.
