I LOVE INSOMNIA
It lets me get caught up on all those blogs in the blogroll.
Michael Lopez has a post titled ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL. It’s not about homeschooling at all, but about how better schools (may) drive up housing prices. That got me thinking- we may be moving (sooner rather than later) to Fayetteville, NC. When (if?) it comes time to househunt, the schools will just not be a consideration. I can look way out in the boonies where land and privacy are cheap. Ten acres would be enough to keep a horse, right?

I believe 10 acres is the minimum to sustain one horse, if you are going to let it graze in pasture. |

Homeschool support groups in the boonies of NC will be nil unless you are a godly person interested in whipping godly values into your children – verbally speaking of course – and want to practice the F word meaning fellowship in jesus, o hallelulah brother wait til the baptist boonies have their way with you in your libertarian godlessness. O and horses here get get equine encephalitis and west nile virus so it’s not too nice a place for them either |

Godlessness? Sorry if I’ve given that impression. We’re Christians (Baptist, in fact, though not Southern). Support groups are nice for social stuff for the kids but unnecessary beyond that. Our homeschooling, though, is pretty secular. We do have them memorize a Bible verse each week. Thanks for the warning about the horses. |

Man, I’d love a house with a good chunk of land out in the boonies, too – in just about any State it’s available. Not a fan of horses, though. |

Me either. I don’t like animals bigger than I. Our girls, OTOH… |

My youngest child as informed me that we need to plan on moving out of the DFW metroplex soon, so she can raise a herd of nigerian dwarf goats. HAHAHAHAHA |

Why Fayetteville? Yecch! Well, in all fairness I spent all of my F’ville time on / around Fort Bragg: not exactly NC’s best and brightest. You can keep a horse on less than 10 acres (my mother-in-law did it for years), but I wouldn’t recommend it. 10 acres is just about right. Best of luck on your move! J |

The move is only a possibility. Fayetteville is as close to our parents in SC as we can get with my current employer. |
