LETTER OF THE DAY
I like meat. Meat and more meat. Steak. Sausage. Pork chops. (Mmmmm. Pork chops.) Evidently, that puts me somewhere around Cro-Magnon Man on the evolutionary scale:
Insensitive people ignore animals’ pain
For the life of me, I cannot comprehend how humans can be so insensitive to all that animals go through so that people can have a lot of unnecessary things.
Cows are sometimes skinned alive because stun guns that are supposed to kill them don’t function properly. Just before they’re killed, they realize what’s going to happen. They smell the blood and death. They become hysterical and topple over each other in an attempt to get away, sometimes breaking their legs trying to get out of the pens.
Monkeys that resemble us are experimented on in the cruelest manner, so that people can get scientific data which can be obtained by other methods.
Foxes, raccoons and other animals are trapped so painfully that the animals often chew their own legs off to try to escape. How can anyone with a heart and brain not be upset about this?
Furthermore, most nutritionists agree that a vegetarian diet is much better for our health. We don’t have to subject animals to this. It’s better for the environment if we eat vegetarian food. The only reason meat seems to taste good is because of spices.
The people who disregard animal suffering are the ones who should be ashamed. It’s not civilized. The more evolved an individual is, the more sensitive he is to the suffering of others.

“If God didn’t want us to eat animals, He wouldn’t have made them taste like meat.” – Homer Simpson Do you ever read Brad Edmonds? |

“It’s better for the environment if we eat vegetarian food. The only reason meat seems to taste good is because of spices.” Is she drunk? The only way I can eat vegetables is if I coat them with butter, mayonnaise, salt, and anything else I can find. I can name countless meat products that I eat largely unspiced, such as ground chuck (hamburgers) and bacon. Mmmm…bacon. |

It’s whiny, preachy, anti-pleasure, brainless, party-line-regurgitating vegetarians like HER who give laissez-faire, gourmet, hedonistic vegetarians like ME a bad name. Phooey. Did her article leave a bad taste in your mouth (if only the taste of a juicy prime rib)? I figure I have as much right to speak for vegetarians as SHE does. Permit me to let you know that I don’t give a good golly what YOU decide to put in YOUR mouth, so long as I don’t have to pay to put it there. I mean that in the nicest way. 🙂 |

I read one of those weird offshoot websites once that had to do with different blood types and proper nutrition for each. It actually made a lot of sense. Mostly I don’t think anyone has the ‘right’ idea about what a perfect human diet is. While we are all the same species, we are still vastly different. I like my food balanced, equal portions of each item on the plate, this means I generally eat more vegetables than meat, because I’ll eat two or three varieties with one portion of meat. I do not like fish. I’ve got a boychild that prefers larger portions of meat, a girlchild that only wants one bite of meat and three pounds of veggies, one child that doesn’t care, as long as there is ketchup and bread in the picture. heh. Of course I’d like to always purchase organic, non-enhanced, well treated food, but that’s not always the option on a very small budget. I can easily see someone appalled at the living conditions of some animals, how they are cared for and how they are slaughtered. However, there are other viable options that can be looked into if you want to change the world. I don’t think you can change anything by forcing your ideals on anyone, nor can you change anything by almost militant crusaiding. My views are probably tainted by growing up most of my life on a farm. I know that excessive antibiotics, growth hormones, pesticides and cruelty aren’t the only way to fill your belly. |

I am very much concerned about animal suffering. That is why I am disappointed that Wisconsin allows the use of a round as low-powered as the .223 for deer hunting and myself possess a .308. |
