THOSE LAZY DAYS OF SUMMER
This one is pretty dumb. A school district in Milwaukee allows teachers to assign homework over the summer. A parent has sued over the issue. I think the lawsuit is pretty silly, but so is assigning graded math homework over the summer. What if the kid was traveling? It seems the schools would just as soon take over all the parenting responsibilities 24/7 year-round.
Yet another reason WWHS.

There’s something wrong with having to snailmail homework? If they’re traveling abroad, I assume they can afford the postage. The traveling issue is a weak excuse. The student in question had a better reason for not being able to make the deadline: he had a job. But hey, I went to a public school that had a community service requirement that =could=not= be fulfilled during the school year (we weren’t allowed to get jobs or anything during the school year.) I think it was about 70 hours, and I did that in 3 weeks. So my sympathy level is kinda low. You go to a public school, then they can pretty much dictate the level of work required for getting certain grades. If you don’t like it, then don’t go to the public school. |

A public school has no right to dictate that graded homework be done during summer break / vacation, unless the students are going to summer school. I do disagree with the lawsuit. It sounds like pettiness to me. |

Is this title from a song, too? It’s a line from Dry County… |
