It (almost) goes without saying that Baumeister’s conclusions are directly supportive of homeschooling, too. Self-discipline and self-control can NOT be taught in a g-school, where institutionalized discipline (‘zero tolerance’) and organizational control have become the norm. Leading back to Tim’s comment: self-discipline and self-control are best developed in early childhood, leading to a sense of self-esteem that is based on a mixture of personal identity and approval from adults. |

Tim, that’s perfect. I’ve been looking for a way to describe why I think self esteem is important, but not some sort of entitlement. Mind if I steal it? |
