The Dallas Observer has a simply superb piece on unschooling. 6,000 words with quotes from Emerson and Holt and Einstein. A must read!

UPDATE: Ms. Whitley has a familial connection to unschooling.

Nifty! Barb has spoken with our homeschooling group several times, on the joys of unschooling teens. 😀

That was a great article – the kid sort of looks like Jim Morrison, and he definately is acting like him!

I don’t know if I trust my child quite that much though 🙂

Trusting your kids is the very basis of unschooling. John Holt said it best in what is perhaps my all-time favorite quote:

“All I am saying in this book can be summed up in two words: Trust Children. Nothing could be more simple, or more difficult. Difficult because to trust children we must first learn to trust ourselves, and most of us were taught as children that we could not be trusted.” -John Holt, in How Children Learn

FYI, Barb (Quinn’s mom) is HEM’s advertising manager, and she puts on the fabulous Rethinking Education conferences.
