IT’S A SMALL WORLD, AFTER ALL
I just found this piece in my normal GoogleNews scrape.
Physical strength, mental discipline, social bonding and aesthetic beauty are aspects of the human experience that we often strive for.
Michael Pinkston found them all in one sport nearly 40 years ago when he discovered rock climbing.
“Rock climbing combines the best human qualities. It is a very positive, life-changing sport,†he said.
Pinkston opened The Climbing Place at 436 W. Russell St. on the first day of 1997 to share his passion in a region where the nearest climbs are a couple of hours away.
…Fayetteville’s Ben and Jamie Williams took their 7-year-old daughter, Kylee, and their 3-year-old son, Hayden, to TCP on Thursday night after Jamie heard about the gym through home school.
“They came right in and started climbing right away,†she said. “My husband just got back from Iraq and he is climbing with my 7-year-old right now, so it’s kinda cool that they’re doing something together.â€
Kylee spent the night here Friday. One topic of conversation– the climbing wall in Fayetteville.

My dh and kids climb there all the time too. They love it! I can see them getting stronger and gaining confidence. It also gives them something to do that belongs to just them and Dad. (Was your hike yesterday at Raven Rock? We went and walked down to the fish traps. The rain was perfect.) |

Raven Rock S.P. We did the Raven Rock Loop Trail. That was our first time there. We liked it so much that we want to camp there once the canoeing opens up in March. |

It was our first time and we were impressed too. I especially like the quartziness (new word) of it. There’s something about glittering white quartz poking up through moss and lichen that appeals to me. We’ll definitely be going back to do some camping. |

Did you happen to see a guy being dragged along by a Samoyed? |

No! Would that’ve been you? Wet leaves over slimy clay plus a large dog – sounds like fun! I’m picturing something like water skiing… It’s nice to know we weren’t the only crazy hsers in the woods that day :). |

Yeah. She’s very strong. My arms were sore yesterday from holding her back. |
