I’m not taking sides in the brewing war between Portugese and British home educators. Can’t we all just get along?

My husband is Portuguese and we visit there quite frequently. In speaking to his aunt, who is a teacher-trainer, I was informed that, in Portugal, educating at home is illegal unless it can be established that the child must stay home due to illness…I’ll be watching this issue unfold, though. Thanks for the link.

    Hi Daryl,

    Yep, I had hoped!

To put it in context, there happens to be a long and extremely sad history involving both of the individuals mentioned, which I feel may colour and distort perceptions of the international relationship, at least on one side of the debate.

I do actually feel very sorry for both these people, as both were clearly victims of a horrible situation that was not of their creation.

It seemed like there was something other than the HS issue going on there. Especially given the mention of child services being called etc. 🙁

I confess to not having heard anything about a brewing war between uk and portuguese home educators – looking at the link you’ve given, it seems you could be slightly over emphasizing a continuing fall out between two home educators, rather than two countries. I’m on uk-he, one of the lists that MFW writes on, and I’ve seen nothing on there about this, and I read around a fair few uk blogs and I’ve seen nothing.

It would be nice if we could all get along, but it isn’t realistic to think it’s going to happen particularly soon I don’t think.
