Glenn Greenwald nicely ties together several seemingly disparate threads here at HE&OS– charges of treason and the case of the Jewish Delawareans. I agree with Greenwald 100%. I have a strong libertarian (small “L”) streak (see the top of this page, for instance), yet I could not imagine voting for a Republican at this stage. The current makeup of the GOP is antithetical to the small, leave-me-the-hell-alone government I’ve voted for in the past. As the Libertarian Party is utterly hopeless, I believe the Dems are the only hope for getting government out of our bedrooms and private decisions.

Yeah, as of this minute I’m a Democrat.

    That’s a fun game. But what’s a “World Cup”?

I don’t know that either party is for small gov’t. But at least the Dems seem less likely to stick our kids (and grandkids) with the bill.

I try to vote the candidate as opposed to the party, but between the lies and the attempts at telling us why not to vote for the other guy, I find that I’m never able to truly place a vote that I’m comfortable with. My preferred candidate in the last two presidential elections, though not exactly president material, was the only one willing to address actual issues of concern to actual people. All of politics is about making up issues, bright shiny things, diverting conversation to things of concern only to politicians.

I can’t accept voting for the lesser of two evils. Regardless of how that vote is placed, you still admittedly have voted for evil. I’m also uncomfortable voting against a candidate. How sad is our system that so many Kerry votes were not so much pro-Kerry as they were anti-Bush?

“I believe the Dems are the only hope for getting government out of our bedrooms and private decisions.”

Will keep fingers crossed that this works out for you. In the UK, the nominally leftist gov’t, having lost the economic argument and having nothing better to do with their time, have taken it upon themselves to become responsible for the welfare of our families…witness The Children Act 2004, as a result of which, the state will apparently need to collect, amongst many other bits of information on children and families, data on what percentage of children are eating 5 portions of fruit and veg per day.

On the other hand, the Right in opposition apparently contains some MPs of at least some libertarian persuasion, (David Cameron seems to be for persuasion rather than legislation, Boris Johnson often sounds libertarian in everything other than his support for a classical education),but of course that could all change, come the day they take on the mantle.
