The Lansing State Journal has an interesting Op/Ed written by an HEK. I think Ginny Davis can probably kiss any future career in politics goodbye:

For the parents of children in public or private schools, that becomes more difficult as not only must they train their children in the way of integrity, but often must counteract the often negative influences of their children’s peers.

This is not to say that all public schoolers are defective. In fact, I have a few friends in the public school system who have turned out well. But I fear that they are the exception rather than the rule.

    “An HEK?”
How do you pronounce this then, in your mind? Can’t wrap my brain-tongue around it to make it feel less awkward than “a HEK”– just curious, never noticed this before.

Mentally I’ve always treated it as H-E-K pronouncing each letter separately. Tim writes “a HEK” and pronounces it “heck.”

Got it, thanks – I mentally always said “In-hen” but the Board members I spoke with and heard pronounce it out loud, always said N-H-E-N.
Still I’m with Tim on this one.
(My high school was GHS and I tried briefly to see if “gish” would catch on, but it was just too stupid even to use mentally! Hey, I was1only 14!)

    That’s funny ’cause I “say” it N-hen.
