GOOD CHOICE

I’ve never understood when parents send kids with severe, life-threatening allergies to school. Ignoring the fact that the kid is only 3, these local folks have made a safer choice.

When I talked about homeschooling our oldest, who has a severe peanut allergy, I got very negative comments and was told that we should give her as “normal” experience as we could. I gave in to peer pressure. She went to PS for pre-school through 3rd grade. She has always been very responsible and had attentive caregivers most of the time, but the kids were often more in touch with her needs than her teachers.

I can’t imagine sending her back. School really can be a dangerous place for kids with severe food allergies, and we were very lucky to not have any problems.

Legally, they have every right to attend school, it’s covered by ADA, but that doesn’t mean mistakes won’t be made.
