I really don’t know what to say about this one, but if this is the only reason to send billions of aid to Israel, we would seem to be mixing religion and politics.

U.S. benevolence toward Israel has been rewarded

This is in response to the letter of Dec. 11 about wasting money on Israel.

The United States gets the promise of God to protect those nations that protect Israel. Israel is God’s chosen nation. Many countries have battled Israel over 2,000 years and it still exists.

Great Britain helped Israel become a nation with the Balfour Declaration of 1917. In 1938 Great Britain had a change of heart, went against Israel, and is no longer a world power.

The United States is the most blessed nation in the world today because of sacrifices it makes for Israel and other countries.

    Magical thinking, I guess.

One of my seminary professors used to say that many Christians are actually practicing magic-users at heart.

Did I read my Bible today? Then life will be good for me.

Did something bad happen today? I must not have prayed long enough.

As a Catholic, he believed that magic was a perversion of true sacramental Christianity – the view that God does actually use physical means (bread, wine, water, etc.) to impart grace.
