One of the girls’ first attempts with stop-motion animation. They learned from this one that they need to make smaller movements between frames.

I promised them I’d try to add sound. Easier said than done.

Now that looks fun! Can we get a few technical details? (Software used? Hardware used?)

Can we get a few technical details?

Hardware– any tripod-mounted digicam will work. Set the camera to the LOWEST resolution setting available.

Software– Picasa to choose which frames to include. Export them to a new directory.

    Movie software- JPGVideo.

This video was made at 5 frames/second. I think we shot 78 frames in all.

Adding sound track– Microsoft Movie Maker

    Other notes:

Playing with these for the last few days, we’ve learned that shooting a larger subject (like a person) from maybe 20 feet away allows for a much smoother (apparent) motion. It was difficult to move the cars slowly enough to appear smooth.

Don’t shoot near a sunlit window. You’ll notice the shadow moving across the video.

Rename the movie that JPGvideo creates. It ALWAYS uses the same filename and will overwrite without verifying.
