    Pound sand. Again.

It amazes me how misleading and how wrong DNPE can be on one little postcard. I think the only sentence that may be completely accurate is the first one. Yes, it’s completely voluntary. No, they almost certainly won’t visit you if you don’t “volunteer.” No, there is no September 30th deadline for anything. No, there is no June 30th deadline for testing. And, no, you do not have to respond with “Wish to meet.” In fact, you do not have to respond to this card at all.

Under the law, we are required to notify DNPE when we begin home educating. And never again after that. (NC General Statutes § 115C?560)

And, unless Rod Helder ego googles and happens to find this post, that’s exactly what I intend to do.

UPDATE: Strictly speaking, we are supposed to contact DNPE one other time– when we “close” our homeschool.

Well–according to them–they will get enough feedback from the responsible, cooperative, committed citizens of the homeschooling population to comply with their perfectly legal requests for voluntary participation to pacify the educrats that they won’t need you or me.

I, personally, feel left out of this whole little intimate circle. No wonder I’m so rebellious. It’s really all THEIR fault for making me feel like a law breaker. I’m sure I should be entitled to some kind of government compensation for my stress and anguish over it.

(Deja vu…I think I made these same stupid comments LAST year over this “Inspection By Mail” thing. I will spend the next “school year” in creative writing mode in order to come up with some new material for next year.)

I fill it in and send it back. And that’s all I do.

    Am I doing it wrong?

There is no “wrong.” But filling in the card and sending it back is not required.

Well, I’m not mailing shite back to them.

    Law says: ‘Keep on File’

So I do. Forever. Cuz I loves me some paper. 🙂

Yeah, we got our card today too. Although, I’m confused — I thought you only got it the second year the school operated. We’re only 4 months into our first “official” year.

    ?

More stuff to keep up with is not what I need, thank you.

DNPE doesn’t know how to handle “schools” that run on a non-traditional schedule. That being said, under no circumstances should you have gotten the grey card asking for voluntary submission by mail. 2nd year schools get a purple card that serves no useful purpose that I can determine.

We “accidentally” lost ours last year.

The only “useful purpose” I have found for anything I have received from DNPE is getting the school discount to educational-type places. We’re going to Ripley’s Aquarium at Christmas and it’ll cost us $6.50 p/p instead of $18. 🙂 And they require that you show them some proof that you’re a home educator.
