“The defense policy of the United States is based on a simple premise: The United States does not start fights. We will never be an aggressor. We maintain our strength in order to deter and defend against aggression — to preserve freedom and peace.” — Ronald Reagan

Yeah, I’m feeling particularly morose about the state of our nation.

Not that Regan always stood by those words in deed. But at least he had the decency to be covert about it. 😉

Meh. This is a safe quote to make, because the world runs off of the aggressive use of force, and you can always point to something a week or year ago and say “see, they started it”.

We don’t start fights. But we’ll sure insert ourselves into other’s fights on occasion.

Given the opportunity, I moan about the United States having a Department of Defense, not a Department of War.
