I’m being overrun by folks who see nothing wrong with spanking, paddling, and tasering kids in schools.

Blogger down. Calling in for some backup.

Did I mention that two high-school kids volunteered to be tased at the same time I did? (Here’s the video again: youtub...AAELRQ )

Anyway, I’m basically in favor of using a taser in only one circumstance: A cop decides someone is in danger of bodily harm or death from an aggressor, and it would be nice to have something other than a nightstick or gun to reach for. (Resisting arrest after ignoring repeated commands and attempts at non-injurious force failed qualify in my book.) Anything else, keep it in it’s holster.

What’s with all that tough-guy testosterone bluster over there? Is it always like that or is it the topic?

There was a study on cable news this month about the stress of driving in heavy traffic being correlated with a spke in coronary events. (I know this is true for me.) Then the NYT Science Times had a column about the hogh blood pressure of preeclampsia doubling a woman’s heart risk decades after the pregnancy. . .

Seems to me not a stretch then, to worry that the very conditions some use to justify tasering, are endangering kids every day by exposing them repeatedly to those distressful conditions, whether or not bodily harm with various weapons is then inflicted in response. The institutional dis-stress is unsafe in the first place, and that’s what we should be resolving, if the well-being of the students and staff is really the issue.

The behavior is pretty typical. I blame the military for the “let God sort ’em out” mentality.

I’m personally against legalized violence, whether family violence or any other sort of attack. As I posted in my comment, it’s not considered acceptable to beat your wife when she mouths off to you, taze your secretary when she leaves the office without permission, or hit Grandma when she does something senile. Adult-on-adult violence is criminal. Adult-on-child violence is somehow OK to the same people who would haul another adult into court for touching their butts accidentally.

Do the military and law enforcement get career recruits mainly from environments where they were raised with violence as kids then? Has anyone ever studied that correlation?

Makes sense that kids treated like nails are bent by hammering, grow up to be hammers who then look at the next generation and see only nails in need of more hammering::

” I got my last paddling as a sophmore in front of God and everybody, and then another one at home. I had black and blue marks on my butt. It wasn’t abuse, I earned every lick I got.

So from what I’ve seen here we have serious discipline problems in our schools to the point where we need armed officers roaming the halls. “

    Of course!

Sophomore — isn’t that normally age 16, past puberty and old enough to legally drive and get married (since you’re old enough to knock someone up with a baby who you’re likely to abuse during toilet training) in states like NC and VA? Old enough to wear a uniform in junior ROTC. Old enough to be tried as an adult.

Daryl’s right, this control-with-violence meme is militaristic and grown-man pornographic, not mom keeping a pre-rational toddler safe out of the street with a warning swat to the diaper.
