A BIENNIAL EVENT
Two years ago I spent my entire 4-day 4th of July weekend laying laminate flooring in the LR/DR. It was so much fun that I went back for a second helping. The Master BR was finished a couple weeks ago. This weekend’s project is the den. Thursday morning there was carpet in the room. The photo below is as of around 10 a.m. today. I’ll be completely done (other than the quarter round which will have to wait for some transportation) by tomorrow afternoon.

Armstrong Swiftlock Plus. Hawthorne Hickory. Distributed exclusively by Lowes. The boards are 5″ and microbeveled. I’ve never liked the look of the typical wider laminates. |

We did our entire house too. What a great invention! Even when the boy was a toddler surrepticiously went “slip n sliding” in my tye dye, it wiped right up leaving no stain at all. The boy, however was not so lucky. He was many colored for days, lol! |

We had hardwood floors in our old house and loved them. Until the polyurethane started getting scratched up (within a year or two). With a household of 4 kids, a dog, and 2 cats, we didn’t want to go that route again. The flooring I put down two years ago still looks brand new. Carpeting lasts a decade at best. Hardwood needs refinishing every few years. I doubt I’ll have to ever replace the laminate. |

I love the laminate. We have both wood and laminate (no carpets), and while I prefer the wood, the laminate is holding up well – 10 years and counting. There are a few places where a large heavy pointy object fell and made a dent, but other than that, no complaints. I like laminate countertops, too – easy to clean, nice designs, and significantly cheaper than the granites and such, which need careful handling. |
