DEFYING GRAVITY

I shot this one of Katelyn the other day. Ballerinas can only maintain First Arabesque for a second or two, but in this photo Katelyn looks like she could stay there forever.

You (and she!) are lucky to have gotten that shot. Luck and 3 frames/second. |

It’s kind of fun is to watch Katelyn and Chelsea pick apart the individual frames. To my amateur eye, two or three consecutive shots look identical. But the girls can spot minuscule flaws. The shot above was their favorite. I was shooting this to send to Ballet Magnificat as part of the scholarship application process. Katelyn plans on going there for their Trainee program in Sept. 2011, but the current application is for their Summer Intensive. |

Delaney does that with my photos of her on the horse. She has editorial approval over anything I post, and I usually get shot down because one of her feet is not exactly right, or her hands are too high on his neck, or some other flaw that I can’t see, |

Katelyn is fanatical about her hands. The index finger needs to be up just a fraction, the middle finger down, the thumb pointing forward, and the wrist needs to be almost but not quite straight. 🙂 |
