Ladies, I’m throwing this one out as an open-ended question to y’all as the primary “teachers”-Is homeschooling a sacrifice? I ask that because of this quote out of Texas.

“Academic quality, individual achievement and flexibility are the reasons that many parents are sacrificing their careers and freedoms to join the ranks of home-schoolers.”

Do y’all feel that staying home to raise your kids (whether or not you homeschool) is sacrificing your career and freedoms?

I think my lifestyle, family, spiritual and educational choices are a *celebration* of my career and freedoms.

i prefer not to think of staying at home with my 2 children a “sacrifice”, otherwise i might go thru my days feeling like a martyr…it is a choice that my husband and i have made not only for the childrens welfare but for our own. i would hate to be constantly worrying about what my kids were doing, who was watching them, etc.it is always so funny to me to have women who work outside the home tell me how “lucky ” i am that i “get to stay home”…because again it is a choice! i could be out working, my family could have double the income we have! but to be honest i guess we are “sacrificing” more money but i think what we get in return is well worth it, so not really a sacrifice…money can’t buy everything. as far as the freedom…that for me is the hardest part…we only have one car(part of the financial “sacrifice”) and so i don’t have a lot of freedom, as far as getting away from home. honestly the winter months are the only time i notice this being very hard. and fortunately for me i have my parents nearby if we need to go to the doctor, etc and a few good friends with small children also who come visit. my children are 2 and 4 and so haven’t really begun the “schooling” yet….i know it will be hard but also know anything worth accomplishing takes work. so…..i just hope we can make it thru!!!!!!! my 4 year old is already telling me she wants to go to school(uh oh) so i know i’m in for an interesting journey!

    Financially, speaking, yes. Career-wise, no.
