The Florida Aquarium is developing a program to help homeschoolers learn about experiment-based science. Normally, I’d be wildly enthusiastic. A couple of problems, though: 1) the program is being paid for with $121,022 in federal tax money and 2) the program will be “based on state standard science goals.” I wonder what Florida homeschoolers think about this?

Okay, I’m not living in FL, but the comment section is for everyone, right? 🙂

I think the current programs sound great! They even have a free homeschooling day. (I linked to the aquarium from my blog.) So what if the program is based on on state standard science goals, they can be ignored can’t they? If they’re good, they can be embraced.

If this aquarium is willing to put together some homeschooling days, events, and programs–even prior to receive federal monies, I think I’d be happy! Very happy. But then I’ve lived in areas where businesses don’t tap into the homeschooling market.
