I DON’T BELIEVE IT FOR A SECOND
Here’s the stat of the day:
[A] 1999 U.S. Surgeon General’s report estimates 20 percent of children ages 9 to 17 have diagnosable psychiatric disorders.
1 in 5 kids? Of course, the DSM IV-R can include all sorts of “disorders” that really aren’t. We have a copy of the DSM III somewhere but I can’t put my hands on it. I’d bet that it includes ADD/ADHD.

I’m not sure I doubt the stat of 1 in 5, but I would add that probably 90% of *those* have symptoms that mimick psychiatric disorders due to high intake of simple carbohydrates. And I don’t just mean “hyperactive” kids. I’ve had very whacked out blood sugar all my life (I hardly ever ate protein and lived on simple carbs) and had many symptoms, with two psychiatric diagnoses. Since I changed my diet, all symptoms are now gone. I feel sorry for those kids; it’s such an easy fix. |

That figure is baloney. I hereby estimate that the Surgeon General in 1999 was a moron. What do you expect psychiatrists to say? $$$. |
