I know that these social worker cases are rare. But when they do come up they certainly can be ugly.

My son is only 2 but that story scares me to death! I know that not everyone is a fan of HSLDA, but the price of membership seems small compared to the peace of mind to having them around to help in cases like this. Is there another way to put one’s mind at ease?

And never, never, never allow the State into your home without a search warrant.

Thanks for the responses — both of those are good answers. But there is still the problem of preparing a defense and showing up in court, even just to get unlawful charges dropped. I guess I can use the “it’s really really unlikely” aspect to keep from freaking out over that.

The only problem with the story is my past experience with HSLDA. When we had homeschool unfriendly legislation in my state, HSLDA and the state organization got involved to sucessfully block it. Afterwards, I read several reports on the meeting and only the HSLDA was inconsistant. HSLDA made out that they were the *only* hero of the day. Since then I always read their reports with a grain of salt. After all, they make maoney when people are scared.

Was there any disciplinary action taken on the welfare worker and a law suit filed?
