WHAT YOU GONNA DO?
Austin area schools and pre-schools have noticed an increase in bad behavior among the youngest students. No one seems to know why. A tidbit that caught my eye:
For many students, pre-kindergarten is their first experience interacting with other children their age. Nearly three of four Austin students, for example, have never been in a child caresetting before entering pre-K, administrators said.
I find that stat hard to believe. Unless even the percentage of SAHM is bigger in Texas, that is.

And implying that SAHM’s kids don’t interact with other children is messed up as well! What, I stay home ALONE with my kid and neither of us ever has a friend come over?? |

What kills me is the implication that we SAHM’s could possibly raise our children as well as daycare professionals. We just watch our soaps and let the kiddies raid the fridge all day… |

This doesn’t jibe with the observations of a friend of mine. She said she could always pick out the kids who hadn’t been to daycare because they paid attention to the teacher and didn’t participate in the ‘herd behavior.’ I figure she knew what she was talking about because she retired from teaching Kindergarten for 25 years, and she was actively teaching during the changeover from few-daycare-kids, to mostly-daycare-kids. |
