Can someone explain how Orleans Parish was left off this list?! And note the date.

    Worst. President. Ever.

    The Emperor Has No Clothes.

So what if some towns were simply obliterated and levees were starting to give in New Orleans– Bush spent his day Monday at fundraisers in California and Arizona. Condi had tennis lessons and a Broadway show to go to, and well, Cheney was still on vacation, too… Meanwhile Fema head, Brown, had ‘no idea’ for days that there were 10,000+ evacuees at the NO Convention Center with no food or water…

    Throw the bums out, now.

This is complete and total failure of government at every level. And the guy at the top has to be accountable for that.

We’ve poured 80 billion in the Dept of Homeland Security since 9/11.

    80 billion.

One more time – 80 billion.

And they completely melt down over one frigging hurricane in a city that has known for 100 years that this would eventually happened.

Do you have any confidence that we could handle simultaneous catostrophic events in multiple cities?

Attacking the messenger? Well, then, it is time to grow up, isn’t it…

No, I don’t have confidence that multiple catastrophes could be handled well. But I do think the local governments shoulder the burden of immediate (1-2 days) response.

I think it is insignificant that Bush, Cheney, and Rice were not in New Orleans on Monday night. Or even planning a response. At that time, NO was breathing a sigh of relief. Idiots like Rush Limbaugh were belittling all of the “Chicken Littles” in the media for predicting the great flood of New Orleans. Maybe the mayor of NO listens to Rush, and decided to not forcibly evacuate his city when there was still time.

We definitely need to criticize and ask questions. But we need to ask questions like the ones COD asks in the comments above. Those are grown up questions.

And I love Daryl and all of his fantastic work, but I don’t see how leaving Orleans Parish off of the disaster area list makes him the worst president ever. Maybe that was the final straw? Maybe if the Mayor had read that list earlier he would have been more likely to force everyone out. He got his family out, you know.

But the questions need to be asked about why the government was so slow in getting organized. No question about it, the feds effed up their part. They were innefficient and disorganized, at least to me observing from a computer and TV in Atlanta. We need to find out why, and fix it. And as horrible as the devestation in Biloxi and the Gulf was, if the levees had not been breached, this would be a typical horrible hurricane.

But in the mean time, we need to prepare ourselves and the poor and ignorant people in our communities to accept the fact that in a disaster, you are on your own.

The WPE label is not because of (inadvertantly?) leaving off Orleans Parish. It is because his has been the absolute worst administration in the history of this country. From 9/11 to Iraq to Abu Graib and Gitmo to Katrina, they are inept and just plain awful. Mike Brown’s previous experience that qualified him to lead FEMA was being the leader for the Arabian Horse Association, a job from which he was fired. Incompetence in this administration isn’t just condoned; it is rewarded. Bush claimed FEMA was doing a terrific job.

And then there are the inappropriate Bush jokes. Like the “search” for WMD in the Oval Office, Bush at first treated Katrina like a joke. Poor Trent Lott lost his house. But the feds will re-build it and Bush was looking forward to sitting on the front porch of this grand new home. Ha-Ha!

Like I said- Worst. President. Ever.

At risk of getting slammed for using a “liberal” website to illustrate a point regarding our leaders’ lack of, well, leadership the following article offers quite an interesting perspecitve.

It illustrates some points others are making in recent comments.

Ok, if I were smarter and a better writer, I would have written something like this. But Protien Wisdom has said it well:

I personally want to stress this: “From what I can tell at this point—and I’m quite willing to amend my assessment in the face of FACTS…”

What DOES make Bush the WORST president is the thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people who have died needlessly since he has been in office. Have you forgotten – 9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq and now Katrina! How many lives has he destroyed, families that have been ripped apart, not to mention how he has completely devastated Iraq’s infrastructure. I’m sorry – our country is going to hell and he is the number 1 cause!
