Apparently the GOP is getting a bit desperate in Virginia, reduced to ad hominem political attacks:

The following is a letter which goes out to Pro-Family homeschoolers in Loudoun County, Virginia.

    TO: Loudoun County Pro-Family Conservatives

    FR: Doug Domenech
    Round Hill
    Former Republican Chairman
    Conservative, Pro-Family, Pro-Life

RE: Election 2005 – What’s On the Ballot

…Russ Potts, Jr. is a State Senator and is running as an Independent. He is a kook and I will not dignify his two-faced policy positions with any serious analysis. He has been on both sides of the abortion issue, both sides of the tax issue, both side of the homeschooling issue, and both sides of membership in the Republican Party.

I think if I were in Virginia (I’m not) and a “Pro-Life, Pro-Family” home educator (I’m not), I might be inclined to vote for Potts merely to piss off Domenech.

Potts is a kook though. We have no decent choices in the Gov race this year. All 3 of them are worthless.

“My father was a busy man. Caught up in the workaholism of the 1950’s and 60’s, he saw little value in investing in family life or his children as he chased the American dream. He did a good job – that is, if his goal was to raise rebellious children with no moral compass.” – Doug Domenech (“The Dads of HSLDA”, Home School Court Report, June 1996, page 7. )

Well, I am not exactly sure why you have decided to attack me but anyone in Virginia who has been watching politics knows that Russ Potts has indeed campaigned on both sides of most issues. Up until 2002, Potts was openly hostile to home schoolers. During his Senate reelection he suddenly “accepted” home schoolers and ran as an anti-tax, pro-life, traditional values candidate. Then during the past year, he voted for the largest tax increase in Virginia history and accepted an award from the Virginia Pro-Choice crows. Now during this Governor’s election, he is advocating gay adoption.

He is my state Senator. What I am saying is correct.

With all due respect, you characterization of an elected state senator, Russ Potts, Jr. as a kook, was juvenile and unprofessional. If you want people to listen to you and respect your opinion have something intelligent to say, not a personal attack that sounds like something one would hear on an elementary school playground.
