Articles like this miss what is – for me, at least – the main point of homeschooling, which is to provide children with a well-rounded and useful education; one that teaches them how to be Citizens and not just Consumers. The ‘moral foundation’ argument is a bad one for me, because it presupposes that public schools have a duty to provide that foundation to kids in the first place. I contend that they never had that obligation, and thus haven’t dropped the ball in that respect. Public schools fail when they stop fulfilling their charter to help mold children into useful citizens. The construction and maintenance of a child’s moral foundation is *always* the duty of the family, first and foremost. Homeschooling is the ideal course of action, however, because the family can provide both moral and other kinds of instruction as part of an organic and interactive whole on a 24/7 basis.
