    From HEM-Networking:

The conference report was agreed to in House late on 2/19/05.

The Status: On agreeing to the conference report Agreed to by the Yeas and Nays: 374 – 41 (Roll no. 665).

I phoned Sen. Warner’s office and they confirmed that the section pertaining to homeschoolers, 522, remained in the bill and if the senate approves the report, it will become law.

If you object to this, I suggest sharing Mary McCarthy’s letter near and far. I have posted it here: http://www.homeedmag.com/blogs/groupnews/?p=43

I will also be calling each individual who voted no and thank them.

    Mary Nix

The only chance now is for a filibuster (over ANWR drilling, most likely).

UPDATE: Wrong bill. ANWR is in Defense Appropriations, not Authorization.

Looks like you’re appropriately livid and (almost) speechless over this, Daryl. 😉

Speaking of speechless, it occurred to me that perhaps there had been some interesting discussion regarding recent events on the boards at NHEN. However, there hasn’t been a new post there since August.

    Is that board dead?

Yeah, the NHEN boards are completely dead. IIRC, they were co-opted by some cyber charter supporters. They then erupted into a series of flame wars. I don’t recall who decided to pull the plug.

BTW, Annette (who posts here occasionally) was going to try to revive them. Apparently she had no luck.

Well, I didn’t have the time to put into the steps that would have proceeded either opening the board or starting something entirely new. I did begin but realized the time factor.
So, I decided to have my own legislative message board where speech isn’t heavily moderated. keepin...om.org
I’m quite fed up with the silliness I have seen with moderating. If the new board is of interest, register as an encouragement to me. 🙂 I have been taking some time off from the internet in general, but the board is going to be a priority for me in the new year. I believe that with what I have discovered on the NCSW group, I need to start documenting some things on the new board.

Yes, and NHEN was also co-opted by the appearance of Scott Sommerville and his HSLDA agenda … similar to what he has tried to do to HOES and COD’s blog for awhile with regard to HONDA.. don’t you folks realize Scotty gets paid to sit and scour everyone elses blogs all day? Needless to say that HSLDA doesn’t accpet public comment on their own website so they send Scotty out to go play in everyone elses sandbox to take up our time and distract us from the real issues. If we are all busy countering his posts then we won’t be on the phone with our legislators..or learning about the myriad of legislation they are proposing in Congress.

Scott was invited by me to respond to my HONDA criticisms on ODonnellWeb. The only way he could have posted was for me to set him up with a log-in to ODonnellWeb.

I hope Scott continues to post on our blogs. His words have been tremendously helpful in convincing people that HSLDA is not all puppies and flowers when it comes to homeschool freedom.

I’m also glad he’s been absent for the last two days. If some of us caught the slightest whiff of a gloat, I think we’d be less than welcoming (to put it mildly).

Well, I hope he’s using this time away from the blogs productively. After all, there’s a resume to polish up. He did pledge to do everything he could to stop the loss of homeschool freedoms. If my best guess/worst case does come to pass, maybe we could hire him to work in DC. Who better to lobby against HSLDA’s tactics than a former HSLDA lawyer?

You apparently haven’t seen the price of real estate in Purceville VA. You are going a lot more than the few hundred bucks pledged here to afford Scott 🙂
