Not even the tiniest bit. It was obvious to me during the first trial that she was insane and not responsible for her actions. It was only because of draconian Texas law and a key prosecution witness who lied that she was convicted the first time.

    Texas and draconian laws? Never!
    😉

I’m glad they reversed the decision. She was quite obviously insane, and had a history of suffering from post-partum psychosis that she neglected to treat properly. The entire mess is horrible, maybe she can receive proper treatment now.

I have no clue if she knew right from wrong when she killed her kids. But I believe either is possible.

From what I’ve been told, even in it’s worst forms, post-partum psychosis doesn’t take control away from the sufferer. Or, as a lady who suffered from various forms of mental illness once told me, “Nobody forces you to do what the voices and images are telling you to do.”

Latest issue of Newsweek reports on a female psychiatrist who argues that men are THROUGH claiming our “hormones mess up their results!”

I agree with Rob. Not everyone who has a psychosis commits murder, so why should it be an excuse to avoid jail-time? She chose to act on whatever impulses she was recieving at the time. Maybe those impulses and thoughts were extremely out of the norm, but she still had the choice.

I know her husband must share some of the blame for her descent into whatever mental illness she claims to have (how can someone who lives with you not notice you’re a little nutty?). But again, there should be NO excuse for murder. She killed her kids, and the “insanity” label doesn’t change that fact.

Besides, insanity is a temporary condition and is a legal, not a medical, term. So convenient to have that to fall back on when you’re facing multiple life sentences (or the death penalty as the case may be).

I know I’ll be accused of only thinking in black and white, but for me there is no excuse for what she did and I, for one, will not applaud the fact that she will now be coddled for the rest of her life.
