Read this editorial in my local paper (Yes, Mimi, I really am in Fayetteville and I really do work for DuPont.). Has the entire g-school system simply lost their minds? And what about the parents of those 23 kids who are left? And the editor of the paper should be hung up by his thumbs for this graf:

By waiting until three games into the season to bring up the discussion, Pinecrest administrators caused undue anger and frustration at the school, in the community and throughout the conference. A forfeited season affects more than just one team. Band members, cheerleaders and hundreds of athletes from other teams are disappointed. Other schools lose big money when games are canceled.

Boo-friggin’-hoo! It’s high school football. I’m pretty sure it’s not mandated in the state constitution. Cancel the remaining games.

…the directors of the Mid-Southeastern 4-A Conference said they would fine the school $10,000 for every game it forfeits.

Way to waste taxpayer money! Go Big Government! Well played! (golf clap)

What? They have to have done it on purpose. It can’t be simple stupidity. Why else would they fine a school enough money to send a kid through state college for every game missed? I mean, I live in Texas, the home of taking high school football life-or-death seriously, and I like to think even we would find this disgusting. They just can’t NOT know what they’re doing when they fine a school more than most doctors get sued for in malpractice cases.

Well, it’s probably not really a waste. The money would have to go somewhere. My guess is that the other team would get a cut as would the sports bureaucrats. So, it’s more like a transfer payment.

Remember, we’re still dealing with the g-schools here, so IAATM.
