Sears just plain sucks. I’ve ordered two dishwashers from them in the last week. The first I did over the phone because I couldn’t get their website to work. The CSR placed the order. Five days later I still hadn’t heard back on delivery time so I called. The dishwasher was no longer available, so the order was canceled. Of course they didn’t bother to notify me. Yesterday, I ordered a replacement online. I called their misnamed Customer Service Department to confirm that the order was placed and that the dishwasher was available. No problema. Today I got the email notifying me that it was NLA.

Both dishwashers are still available (and supposedly in stock) via the website.

I hope you are buying a Maytag. When we replaced the dishwasher in another house we bought a Maytag – the thing was so quiet you weren’t sure it was even on. The builder grade GE in our current house sounds like the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. I find myself secretly hoping it will die, so I can justify replacing it.

I’m a confirmed Consumer Reports addict. I’ve subscribed for almost 20 years and they’ve never steered me wrong. I was attempting to purchase their “Best Buy,” which happened to be a Kenmore model. I think now I’ll move up a couple notches to a Bosch.

As for noise, I’ll put our existing machine up against any in the world. A bearing in the motor has gone and it is unbearably loud. When it is running, it can be heard 100 feet away outside the house. With the windows closed. In a hurricane. OK, that last bit is an exaggeration but the rest is accurate.

Yeah, but yours is that loud because it’s broken. Ours is that loud by design!

I used to love Kenmore products but no longer. Only Sears repair people repair them. After a 3 day wait to get someone to look at my stove. He annouced that he doesn’t not carry parts w/ him & they would be shipped via UPS. Even though the stove was under warranty,it took a week for one of the parts to arrive & another 3 more days to for the 2nd part to show up. Plus I had to then reschedule the repairman to come back out once the parts arrived.
Imagine 2 weeks w/out my oven. What if it had been the fridge?
I ended up just getting another stove from a Mom & Pop appliance place that also services what they sell.

The Kenmore label is just something stuck over White Westinghouse, Maytag, Fridgedaire or whoever manufactures a particular model for Sears.

I’m with Traci on the mom and pop stores. They often have good rices but much better service.

Daryl, we had a Chris O’Donnell aircraft line model installed by builder in 1989, finally replaced it this spring with a stainless steel Bosch SHE (the 44 I think, it has minimal cycles, no auto delay, etc) – after doing the whole Consumer Reports thing, of course. Not the absolute lowest decibel model, but it was hundred less expensive, and seems just as whisper-quiet as the top of the line did in the showroom. Love it, love it, love it!
