GOP meltdownIraq SituationPresident Bush said today that he was “not satisfied†with the situation in Iraq and that the United States was shifting its tactics and working on a timetable with the Iraqi government that includes political measures to stem some of the violence. But he also emphasized that the plan was different from an “artificial†timetable under which American troops would be withdrawn.
I’m sure the GOP thinks Americans are dumb enough to fall for this. And, perhaps, GOP voters are. I think the “reality-based community” (i.e., the 70% of the country that are not Kool-Ade drinkers) will probably see through this.

And on another important front, the Iraqi government sees through this. According to what I just heard on the news anyway. Something about not having agreed to any of this timetable business, being a sovereign nation and not appreciating being pawns in the November elections. Maybe somebody should have talked to the Iraqis before announcing this non-change. Nance |
