I really don’t understand this attitude concerning the DNPE’s meeting “requests.” How can someone get to the point where they buck the system to home educate and yet be so willing to roll over and be a “good little doggie homeschooler”?

What is all the fuss about. If we are homeschooling our children the way we should, following all the requirements and such, why should we not be able to prove it. At least by having these inspections we can see that they actually care that our kids are being educated. If we didn’t have someone checking we would have a whole lot of parents pulling their kids out of school and saying that they are homeschooling their kids and are not actually homeschooling them.

Parents that have their kids in public schools are held responsible for having their child attend school so why should we be required that our kids are actually in school?

If you are that unsure of what you are doing; if you are that unable to gauge whether your children are learning or not; if you cannot manage to even raise your own children without government oversight, you definitely should NOT be homeschooling them. I’m doubtful you should even be parenting them. Perhaps the answer is not to monitor the homeschoolers, but the parents who are so inept.

Yes, yes, it boggles the mind, this desire to “behave” properly, to be obedient to Big Brother and to want to prove it. What will it be next with such rationales…

I lay the blame for the epidemic of statist “thinking” prevalent among NC home educators directly upon NCHE’s doorstep.

So, Toni, any chance that HA-NC is willing to take on the Establishment to provide a real alternative to NCHE and the mindset it fosters? HA-NC is the obvious choice to become the un-NCHE. But if y’all are unable/unwilling to provide the leadership this state sorely needs, I might have to try myself. Of course, starting from ground zero, it’d be years before I was where y’all are today.

I sent these same thoughts to you in an email before I even read this.

    Beats me.
