Does anyone know of a free basic movie editing package (for Windows) that can handle Quicktime (.mov) files? Microsoft MovieMaker doesn’t play with Apple.

I’ve tried some of the .mov to .avi converters and they leave a lot to be desired.

I think you should buy a copy of QuickTime Pro from Apple for $30. This will let you create QuickTime .mov files from your .avi source. So, use the free Microsoft MovieMaker to edit and output an uncompressed .avi. Then open that .avi into QuickTimePro. Finally, export the .mov file from there using any of the compression formats you want.

It’s the other way around. My digicam outputs .mov and I wanted a software package that runs on Windows that can handle them. Movie Maker works with virtually every format except .mov

Is Quicktime Pro worth the money?

Oh, I see. Yes, you can use QuickTime Pro to convert the .mov files into .avi files. I think it’s worth the money, but you may want to poke around here to see if there’s a good, free alternative for converting .mov to .avi: videoh...p.com/
