The authors start out as fairly pro-HSing but then veer off into the &#8220;autonomy&#8221; and &#8220;S-word&#8221; bugaboos.  Then, they <b>really<\/b> go off the deep end with this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I find it frightening to think of the consequences of giving up on public education altogether.  Education is a social endeavor; it prepares children to play a productive role in their society&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Public schools must be supported to adapt to the individual learning styles and temperaments of children if they are to continue to be entrusted with this crucial socializing role.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I don&#8217;t want my kids to be socialized that way.  I don&#8217;t believe the schools&#8217; mission is &#8220;socialization&#8221; or &#8220;autonomy&#8221;.
