Pardon my ignorance but…I’m guessing this is a baptism. Is it a special rite at a particular age? (I took First Communion at 6 years old.)

Yes- it’s a baptism (mouseover the photo). In the Baptist faith (sect, denomination, etc.) baptism is a voluntary thing (as are all acts of faith). IOW, there are no set ages. When a child (or an adult) chooses to be baptised it is a public declaration of their faith in Jesus.

I grew up Catholic and was baptised as an infant and took communion at 7. It took me a year to work up the courage to come forward during an altar call to request (Baptist) baptism, even though I had been going to that church for 3 years. I was 27.

I guess it’s similar to confirmation in the Catholic church… most people do it as a teenager, though I waited until I was 25 to do it. It was a lot more educational going through the catechism as an adult, I can tell you that.

    Congrats to Katelyn!
