Here’s a leading candidate for “Dumb Quote of the Year:”

Bobby Welch, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention, who was re-elected Tuesday, said he did not support a resolution that would have specifically called for pulling Christian students out of public schools.

“Everybody doesn’t have to go to Disney,” he said. “Everybody has to go to school.”

What a stupid quote! But you know, in context, I guess it makes sense when you read the article. So was it a stupid quote taken out of context, (Oh, like our media would never do such a thing) or just a person who is not very articulate and it came out sounding really dumb? The media already have their articles written (in their mind at least) and just wait for dumb quotes or quotes to fill in their blanks. He was probably interviewed for over an hour (my personal formula is 1 hour = 10 words) and that was all they quoted him as saying. I’m pretty forgiving of people interviewed and quoted by the media.
