New York is considering lowering the age to 5 from 7. Two more years of unnecessary paperwork for home educators. Two more years of having to comply with NY’s horrid home education laws.

The governor of SD is trying the same with Kindergarten and going one step further; students would be required to continue attending school until age 18.

It appears that Rob Reiner is trying to build on his political aspirations with a similar policy in California.

I’m sure this will present a number of more hoops for home educators to jump through.

From 5 to 7… now that sounds like an improvement. Perhaps you mean lowering it from 7 to 5? 🙂

At any rate, I think it’s moronic. I detest the compulsory attendance laws to begin with — it merely asserts the concept that the government ultimately has ownership of our children.

Here in NY, as per Education Law 3205, the compulsory age is actually 6.
