BEEN THERE, TRIED THAT, DIDN’T WORK

We’ll have to see which group holds the greater number of useless blowhards: Liberals who threatened to move to Canada if Bush got reelected (and didn’t), or Righties who threaten secession or rebellion if we fail to take back power in the next few elections. |

False equivalency. It’s legal for me to move to Canada (assuming they’d let me in). We fought a war over the question of whether secession was legal. Your side lost. |

You know, Darryl, I often wish someone would just call their bluff already. Go ahead. Seceed. Run your own mini-country. Make your own mini-constitution. Raise your own mini-armies. And, fund it ALL yourselves. IAATM. Quebec, to use a Canadian example, won’t seceed because without federal money they’d be up the proverbial crique sans aviron. If push came to shove, not a single state would seceed, and if they did they surely wouldn’t suceed without federal funds. They’re just a bunch of blow-hards — the whole ignorant lot of them — and they use secession as a manipulative tool the same way little kids threaten to take their ball and go home if you don’t play by their rules. |

Rob isn’t getting the point, that “useless blowhard” isn’t the point of anyone’s concern at this point. |

Armed rebeliion to overthrow the government, theocracy and even outright terrorism otoh, are supposedly the unAmerican threats we’re most united against.( Which these days still doesn’t amount to much unity, by the design of the armed and dangerous.) |

Were there a lot of liberals running for office on the platform of moving to Canada? |

I see all the secession talk has y’all concerned. It’s understandable, I just don’t think anything will come of it. Pres. Obama has just been too much of a rubber stamp on Bush foreign policy, what with his keeping to the Iraq timetable, keeping Gates, his surge in Afghanistan, and all that. As for the ‘legality’ of seceeding, what is your understanding of what makes a law something anyone cares about? From my camp, laws are effective only when they’re enforced. They’re enforced with force or threat of force (probably why it’s spelled that way). It’s sort of rare these days for a new nation to show up without breaking someone else’s rules. But new nations spring up often. |

We’re concerned that one of the two major political parties has gone batshit insane. The GOP’s insanity du jour is secondary. |

And he’s not even the worst my state has to offer. Google Stacey Campfield if you want to laugh and seethe at the same time. |
