WHAT IS IT WITH NC COLUMNISTS?
The lede says it all:
One thing that has never sat well with me is the concept of home-schooling children for religious reasons.
The column is one big anecdote about how the writer survived the g-schools with his faith intact, and, therefore, your kids should, too.
Yes, attending school forces children to regularly face the sinful influences that any good parent wants children to avoid. And, yes, there’s a good chance that these children will even engage in some of these sinful practices while they are young. But no child can be completely without sin, despite the best efforts of overprotective parents. If children are taught at home how to be good Christians, when they are old, they will not depart from those teachings.
I’ve got a verse, too: “Do not test the Lord your God…” –Deut. 6:16

“One thing that has never sat well with me is the concept of home-schooling children for religious reasons.” Who asked him? Daryl, I guess you didn’t know that you were supposed to run your motives for homeschooling by this person to get his approval. |

I will add that I don’t worry about peer pressure on my daughter’s behalf. She’s a very strong-willed and morally upright and self-confident person. I’ve heard her ask her friends to clean up their language. No one’s going to lead her down the garden path. But if she were not that way, I’d definitely have to think very hard about having her in public school. |

What is it with these g-school cheerleaders? They have this stupid idea that one needs to be subject to all kinds of crap on a daily basis in order to know how to navigate through life effectively. You know… one does not have to sit in mud to know what mud is.. (and I am being polite by using the word mud..) Just because the author survived through g-school does not make g-school any more redeeming. I survived through g-school too..but I would be willing to bet that the environment the author went through and today’s environment is two totally different things. |

“I decided at a young age that if I ever had children,” Ok, I was pretty much done right there. When you actually ARE a parent, get back to us on what “over-protective” means to you. Oh, and judge the entire homeschool community based on two students at UNCW. That’s San Francisco east for those of you playing at home. See Dr. Mike Adams’ site for more on this bastion of liberalism and progessive thought. I’m sure this writer was “real educated” by the time he was released. |

It’s odd that someone would go on about homeschooling in NC when there are lots of religious schools in NC as well. =Very= religious schools. Should children at those schools be forced into the public schools? |
