The Wichita Eagle has a very nice profile of a homeschooling mom who has been active in La Leche League for almost 25 years. Homeschooling is only mentioned in passing, but if you have an interest in breast-feeding, the article is well worth a read.

La Leche was a really good resource when I had my three monkeys. I was getting all sorts of conflicting ‘good advice’ from various family members concerning the need to ‘supplement’ while I was nursing. I’m so glad they were there to help keep some of the ‘helpful’ advice in perspective. I think I’d have been to worried that the kids weren’t getting everything they needed nutritionally if I hadn’t had contact with them. 🙂

I also found LLL very helpful for nursing advice, but feel towards them the way I feel towards HSLDA – I really wish they wouldn’t mix causes. I found the national group became much more involved in parenting issues (discipline in particular) rather than nursing advice. I also found the info given to new mothers painted too pretty a picture of nursing, instead of being realistic about how difficult those first few months can be. When I mentioned this to an upper level leader I was told that it was done intentionally, because if ‘women knew the truth they would not even attempt nursing’. That annoyed me 🙂
