OK, this one (passwords) has absolutely nothing to do with home education. Yet.

A woman in the Netherlands has been banned from any contact with her daughter’s school or teachers after complaining too much, a court ruled Friday.

…The woman’s complaints ranged from treatment of her daughter – described as “highly gifted” – to disagreements about curriculum, method of teaching and the safety of the school.

In the 2004-2005 school year, the woman sent 50 e-mails and 20 letters to the school, and came nine times to visit.

She also wrote 29 letters to the school board and others “to the National Complaint Commission, the Labor Inspection Service, the Educational Inspection Service, the Queen’s representative and the media,” the judgment said.

In the future, the woman will be allowed to submit complaints to the school on a single page of paper once a month, the court ruled.

CindyD (who tipped me to this) thought that she ought to homeschool. Perhaps (though a comment on the BloggingBaby site claims that it is illegal in the Netherlands). My thought is that she ought to start a blog of all her complaints. Then once a month she can submit a single page of permalinks to all her rants.

Hi, I just left this comment at blogbaby because I hear it lot that homeschooling is illegal in The Netherlands which is not really true. We have been home educating for almost 6 years now.

Home education is neither legal nor illegal in The Netherlands. It’s just not mentioned in the Dutch laws. At least a hundred children are exempted from school attendance. A summary in English can be found on nvvto....4.html It’s a bit outdated but mostly still valid information about the possibilities in The Netherlands.

Greetings from an unschooling mom of 3 in The Netherlands

P.S. I do not think the mom mentioned will homeschool, her daughter is still in the school. It is true that it is a rather unknown thing to do here though.

Ah hah! For years I have seen the URL thuiso...s.net/ in my referrer logs. I always thought it must be a glitch (like my referrals from the International Atomic Energy Agency). It’s nice to learn that I was mistaken.

    Feestelijk inhalen.

That is a great idea. Then they will wish for the days that she was emailing and writing to them, because now the whole world will get to see their dirty laundry. Blogs are wonderful!

on another matter – the reason I came looking for your blog, is this story useful for homeschoolers?

There are no “nationally mandated tests” for homeschoolers. The first test my sons will take is the SAT.

Yeah, Lil, I saw that, too. I came close to deleting the comment as spam.

    about your “yet”….

I just read the mentioned mom stopped sending her daughter to school. The local Educational Law Officer is already on top of it. She’ll probably get into legal trouble for it as she did not give a reason as far as I know.
Well, at least she is in the company of thousands of parents who have trouble with school and keep their children at home.

    Groetjes 😉
