My lovely wife worked with Merck on honing the marketing plan for this vaccine to prevent cervical cancer. It’s being approved for females now, but Lydia says the data indicate that males should also be vaccinated. Of course they can’t get cervical cancer, but they can carry HPV, and they’re also susceptible to genital warts.

Great another vaccine to be mandatory for public school children.

“Merck (Research) is appealing to states to make the vaccine mandatory for all children who attend public schools. A mandate from the states, which control vaccination policies, would make Gardasil a guaranteed blockbuster.”

When can we expect the state to make Anthrax, Bubonic Plague, and Japanese Encephalitis vaccinations mandatory for school aged children?

From today’s Wilmington News Journal, Planned Parenthood is backing the proposal to make it mandatory for school kids including in the future to boys. The CDC will make it’s decision June 29th.

At a total cost of $360 for 3 doses over six months it will be pricey for states to pick up the Tab for all the low income students.

And while it’s currently suggested for ages 9-26, I have a really hard time even thinking about taking my 3rd grade daughter to the pedatrician for this.

Why? All you need to tell her is that it will help prevent her getting sick when she gets older. No need to go into how HPV is transmitted. And, BTW, HPV is one of the viruses you CAN get from toilet seats. It’s possibly the most easily transmitted virus, and nearly everyone is a carrier.
