and let God sort ’em out.

    Life in Fayetteville:

What were the Israelis supposed to do?

It is very impressive that Dennis Endre can quote Sun Tzu. However Sun Tzu was not dealing with terrorists (“Israel’s tactics kill innocents,” July 11). I, too, am a Vietnam veteran but have a far different approach than Endre. What were the Israelis supposed to do? Thank the terrorists who kidnapped their corporal?

I agree with Endre on one point: The Israelis are dealing with the terrorists improperly. What they should do is bomb one city block into oblivion per day until the corporal is returned unharmed. If the terrorists kill him, then they should step it up and bomb five blocks per day until the terrorists are handed over to the authorities.

It is unbelievable that the way terrorists are being handled is tantamount to a concerned pat on the butt. There is a reason they are called terrorists, that is all they understand!

This approach could also be used in Iraq by our military, but alas, I fear it will enrage the liberal masses far too much to be considered.

Hell, let’s just nuke Iraq from border to border on Day 1! None of this namby-pamby incrementalism.

Question– Why are the Hamas militants who attacked a military outpost and captured a soldier “terrorists” yet the Israelis who captured half of the PA Parliament not?

My personal definition of “terrorism” doesn’t include attacks on military personnel in uniform.

Skip, you seem to be more anti-Israel (or pro-Iran) than Saudi Arabia on this one. Here’s a link to a Lebanese article today.

    From the article:

“In a significant move, Saudi Arabia, the Arab world’s political heavyweight and economic powerhouse, accused Hizbullah — without naming it — of “uncalculated adventures” that could precipitate a new Middle East crisis.

“A Saudi official quoted by the state Saudi Press Agency said Hizbullah’s brazen capture of two Israeli soldiers was not legitimate.

“The kingdom “clearly announces that there has to be a differentiation between legitimate resistance (to Israel) and uncalculated adventures.”

By your definition, Al-Queda isn’t a terrorist organization either, since they occasionally target uniformed military personnel.

No. You’re mixing defintions. What is a “terrorist organization”? One that uses terrorism as a tactic. But how often? Once? Once in a while? As SOP? Was firebombing Dresden an act of terrorism? Did that make the Allied Powers a terrorist organization?

I meant that the attack on the soldiers at the Gaza outpost was not an act of terrorism. Bombing civilians, either in Beirut or Haifa, would normally qualify.

Read the original LttE, folks. He’s proposing intentionally destroying Gaza one block at a time as collective punishment. And if the soldier is killed he is proposing blowing up 5 blocks per day.

Skip, you seem to be more anti-Israel (or pro-Iran) than Saudi Arabia on this one. Here’s a link to a Lebanese article today:

    Scott,

This is out of bounds. Nowhere does Skip imply that he is anti-Israeli or pro-Iran. Skip wrote– “People who target civilians for murder and destroy a nation’s economic structure should *never* get the benefit of the doubt, whether they are Israeli or Arab.” Would not the first half of that sentence condemn Hezbollah and Hamas? And Skip went even further to explicitly state that he included the Arabs here.

    You owe him an apology.

    Now.

Why exactly are these idiots still fighting? Seriously! These same assorted idiots have been killing each other back and forth for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Are they really fighting over the same barren, crappy stretch of desert? Are they really that willing to kill and to die over this crap? Damn fundamentalism and religious ideas that drive people to commit such acts of evil.
Israel should not get to bomb anyone over the capture of two soldiers. Why won’t they just make a trade to Lebanon? Oh that’s right, they don’t have to. They can just bomb neighborhoods instead. Someone already asked, but how many children’s lives does it take to equal the value of a soldier? And why do we care that a bunch of bloodthirsty assholes on the other side of the world are too stupid to stop killing and dying over crap?

OK, this one’s getting out of hand. For the sake of maintaining what little comity we have left here at HE&OS, comments are closed.

Skip, I read your comments too quickly. I haven’t bumped into you before, but Daryl tells me you’re a gentleman and a scholar. I assumed too much from a too rapid reading of two quick comments: my bad. I’m sorry.

I look forward to getting to know you better! Feel free to come over to my blog and comment (and or beat up on me) at your leisure. I’m
