HEADS UP: FL
This story is a bit sketchy, but apparently proposed rules against recruiting at the high school level have the potential to affect HEKs.
“The proponents of the rule are those who feel in the interests of keeping integrity in the community that there needs to be a strong definition of recruiting,” said Goodlette, who enlisted the help of Naples High football coach Bill Kramer when it came to the specifics. “And any recruiting that’s documented needs to be dealt with fairly severely. That’s what the impact of that proposed rule would do.
“As for the opponents, who primarily are the school choice and home-schooled people, they believe that they don’t require the same inability to compete or participate if the student is in the arts or sciences. Their concern is that this only applies to sports, so there are valid issues for both sides.”

As former FL state ed dept pro and current FL mom of HEKs: 1) State rep. Goodlette is term-limited out of office come November, so for anyone wishing to contact and influence him, implying that he needs votes isn’t the way to go, 2) He says his personal buddy the school football coach practically wrote this proposal for him yet he’s undecided and objective, running a fair study panel? LOL. But this state activities assn was tamed years ago with innovative law, so there’s no big HEK problem in any of this. It’s mostly dithering imo, and amusing. 3) Let’s give Goodlette the “bigger fish to fry” award for putting school rules over actual children of any age.; seems he’s also in the news as a respected leader in preschool testing and accountability: “State Rep. Dudley Goodlette, R-Naples, the bill’s architect, defended the accountability program, saying ‘you have to start some place.’ But he conceded that, in hindsight, pre- and post-assessment could help determine which preschools actually are successful. . .” |
